TK Series Debuts in Europe, Opening a New Chapter in NEV Globalization
Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Co., Ltd. (DFLZM) brand FORTHING debuted its TK series of new-energy vehicles (NEVs) at the Paris Motor Show 2026. The TK5 and TK7 models are intended for urban and family users, respectively, with plans for global expansion across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia. The company also announced a European manufacturing plant, expected to begin mass production in Q1 2027.
FORTHING's introduction of the TK series in Europe, with stated plans for broader international distribution, indicates a strategic effort by DFLZM to establish its presence in diverse global NEV markets. The company's "Riding the Wind: Dual-Engine Plan" emphasizes product refinement and localization, suggesting an intent to adapt vehicles to specific market needs rather than offering a uniform global product. This approach, if successfully executed, could address varying infrastructure and consumer preferences across regions.
The TK5 and TK7 models offer distinct features aimed at different user segments. The TK5 targets urban users with BEV and PHEV options, including 800V fast charging for the BEV, which could mitigate range anxiety. The TK7, designed for families, provides flexible seating, storage compartments, and 6.6kW V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) external discharging. These differentiated offerings suggest a deliberate strategy to capture broader market appeal by addressing diverse mobility requirements.
DFLZM's commitment to building a European manufacturing plant by Q1 2027, alongside nine existing KD (knock-down) plants in other regions, signals a move beyond simple product export. Establishing local production facilities can help companies navigate trade barriers, reduce logistics costs, and potentially accelerate market responsiveness. This localized manufacturing strategy could contribute to more sustained global market penetration compared to an export-only model.
