OPPO partners with Manus to bring AI Agents
OPPO is integrating agentic AI capabilities into its smartphones through a partnership with Manus. The new Agent Mode will be part of the AI Mind Pilot on the OPPO Find X10 Series, running ColorOS 17. This feature aims to streamline tasks by segmenting them, gathering information, and interacting with local files and photos.
OPPO's collaboration with Manus introduces an "Agent Mode" designed to make smartphone interactions more efficient. By allowing the AI to break down complex requests, such as planning a trip, into smaller, manageable steps, the system aims to reduce the manual effort typically required from users. This approach shifts some of the organizational burden from the user to the device's AI.
A key aspect of this integration is the handling of user data. OPPO has stated that local files will remain on the device for supported tasks, with external processing requiring explicit user approval. This design choice addresses common concerns about data privacy and security when AI systems access personal information, providing users with more control over their data's movement.
The introduction of agentic AI on a major smartphone platform like OPPO's Find X10 series, operating within its ColorOS 17, represents a step toward more sophisticated on-device AI applications. While the specific functionalities demonstrated, like trip planning, are practical, the broader implication is the potential for AI to manage and execute multi-step tasks that traditionally demand significant user input and navigation across multiple applications or interfaces.
