OpenAI Pitches AI-Powered Cyber Defense to Korean Executives

OpenAI hosted a cybersecurity roundtable in Seoul, presenting its AI-powered defense strategy and Daybreak solution to approximately 60 Korean executives. The event featured discussions on corporate security in the AI era, with speakers from OpenAI emphasizing the use of AI to find and fix vulnerabilities proactively.

The core message from OpenAI's Seoul event is that AI's growing capability in identifying software vulnerabilities and mapping attack paths necessitates a shift in defensive strategy. Attackers are gaining speed, making traditional response times less effective. Defenders, however, can leverage AI by providing models with specific code and operational context, potentially turning the tables by accelerating vulnerability detection and remediation.

OpenAI's Daybreak solution illustrates this approach by integrating the company's AI models, Codex and Codex Security, with existing security workflows. This allows companies to apply AI to their security tools to uncover flaws, test exploitability in controlled environments, draft fixes, and verify their effectiveness. This process aims to streamline the identification and resolution of security issues before they can be exploited.

The emphasis on treating cybersecurity as a core management priority, as stated by Kim Kyung-hoon, head of OpenAI Korea, reflects the increased stakes in an AI-driven threat landscape. The initiative to help Korean companies integrate AI into their security frameworks suggests a broader push by OpenAI to position its technology as an essential component of modern enterprise defense, rather than merely an add-on.
