Fiserv Job Cuts Reach 3,000 as Savings Target Doubles to US$1 Billion

Payments company Fiserv has cut 3,000 employee and contractor jobs since June, including over 10% of senior management, Reuters reported. CEO Takis Georgakopoulos disclosed the reductions, part of a drive to streamline operations and improve efficiency. Under its "Project Elevate," Fiserv has also doubled its savings target to US$1 billion and plans to exit over a dozen smaller products.

Fiserv's recent job reductions, affecting 3,000 employees and contractors since June, represent a substantial organizational change for the payments company. These cuts, which notably included a reduction of more than 10% in senior management, are part of an internal initiative named "Project Elevate." The stated aim of this program is to streamline Fiserv's organization and enhance overall efficiency, indicating a strategic effort to optimize its operational structure.

A key financial component of "Project Elevate" involves doubling Fiserv's savings target from US$500 million to US$1 billion. This increased target emerged after activist hedge fund Jana Partners, which acquired a stake in Fiserv in late 2025, had urged the company to aim for an even higher target of US$1.25 billion. This sequence suggests how external investor pressure can directly influence a company's financial restructuring and efficiency goals.

Beyond workforce reductions, Fiserv plans to discontinue more than a dozen smaller products that are not central to its core business. According to CEO Takis Georgakopoulos, these offerings do not meet the company's criteria for attractive performance, growth, or margin profiles. This strategic divestment highlights a deliberate move to concentrate resources on more profitable and strategically aligned business areas, aiming to improve overall financial health by shedding less effective assets.
