Razorpay Launches GIFT City Payments Platform After IFSCA Approval
Razorpay has launched a new payment infrastructure in India's GIFT City, following approval from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). The platform offers a single integration for brokers and wealth platforms, streamlining cross-border investment transactions for money both entering and leaving India, as reported by the company.
Previously, investment platforms offering global equities faced considerable operational friction. They reportedly had to connect independently with multiple banking systems, compliance workflows, and remittance partners, leading to what Razorpay describes as "lengthy onboarding processes, fragmented user experiences and operational uncertainty."
Razorpay’s new infrastructure aims to address these challenges by combining these disparate processes into a single integration. This setup is designed to enable brokers and wealth platforms to offer global investment services while adhering to FEMA and GIFT City regulations. The company claims this approach can significantly reduce the time required for platforms to go live, from several months to just two to three weeks.
This development comes as Indian investors are increasingly diversifying portfolios internationally, with US$2.65 billion invested in overseas stocks and debt in FY26, marking a 56% year-on-year increase, according to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data. Razorpay also notes that regulators are reportedly directing more cross-border investment flows through GIFT City, indicating a growing demand for compliant and efficient infrastructure to support these trends.
