Douyu’s Q2 revenue rises 19.4% sequentially as newer business lines gain share
Douyu, a game-focused live streaming platform, reported its second quarter 2026 unaudited results, showing total revenue of RMB 981.1 million (USD 145.8 million). This represents a 19.4% sequential increase from the previous quarter, though it marks a 6.9% year-on-year decline. The company posted a GAAP net loss of RMB 72.4 million (USD 10.8 million). Revenue from innovative business, advertising, and other sources grew 32.2% sequentially to RMB 478.1 million, now accounting for 48.7% of total revenue. Douyu's average monthly active live streaming users also increased by 2.6% sequentially to 45.4 million.
Douyu's Q2 2026 results show a strategic pivot by the Chinese live streaming company. While total revenue declined year-on-year, the sequential growth of 19.4% and the increasing share of "innovative business" revenue (48.7% of total) suggest a deliberate shift away from its core live streaming model. This move reflects broader pressures on traditional live streaming platforms in China, which face intense competition and evolving user preferences. The company's investment in events like the Douyu Carnival, attracting over 226,000 visits, indicates an effort to diversify engagement and strengthen its ecosystem beyond direct streaming. The key thing to watch for Douyu is whether this diversification can translate into sustained profitability. Despite sequential revenue growth, the company still reported a GAAP net loss of RMB 72.4 million. The doubling of sales and marketing expenses to RMB 124.8 million, attributed to branding and promotional spending, highlights the cost of this transition. Douyu's ability to balance these investments with improved cost efficiency will determine its long-term financial resilience in the competitive Chinese tech market.
