CXMT reports $8.16 billion Q3 2026 profit, outlines plans for HBM3E and NAND production

ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) reported a net profit of $8.16 billion USD for Q3 2026, with revenue reaching $17.81 billion USD, a 613.2% year-over-year increase. This growth, as per Reuters, stems from CXMT absorbing demand for standard DRAM as major suppliers shifted production toward high-bandwidth memory for AI processors.

CXMT's significant Q3 2026 financial performance, which included an 89.53% gross margin, is directly linked to a specific shift in the global memory market. As major suppliers reoriented production towards High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) for AI processors, the supply of standard DRAM became constrained. CXMT capitalized on this by meeting the demand for existing DRAM products.

The company now plans to diversify into more technically demanding memory segments. It anticipates starting limited production of HBM3E chips within two months. HBM3E is a specialized RAM for high-performance computing, particularly AI, designed for higher data transfer rates than standard DRAM. However, CXMT faces manufacturing hurdles, with initial HBM3E yields estimated at 20-30%, which is considerably lower than competitors like SK Hynix.

To support this expansion and address technical gaps, CXMT invested $1.66 billion USD in R&D during the first nine months of the year. The company also holds $42.77 billion USD in cash, which will fund new fabrication plants intended to double its capacity to 600,000 12-inch wafers per month. Additionally, CXMT is preparing to enter the NAND flash-memory market, which provides non-volatile data storage, further broadening its product offerings.
