VULTR LAUNCHES 20 MW AI SUPERCOMPUTE CLUSTER IN CHENNAIKey Highlights from the launch and Leadership Remarks
Vultr has launched a 20-megawatt AI supercompute cluster in Chennai, India, powered by AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs. Concurrently, Vultr India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with StartupTN, the Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission, to extend cloud computing credits and preferential pricing to eligible startups in the state.
Vultr's new 20-megawatt AI supercompute cluster in Chennai expands its AI infrastructure in India, leveraging AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs. These specialized high-performance accelerators are designed for data centers and AI workloads, providing the substantial computational power required for complex AI model development. This facility brings advanced processing capabilities closer to local innovators, complementing Vultr's existing data centers in New Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.
The accompanying MoU between Vultr India and StartupTN directly addresses the cost barrier for Tamil Nadu's startups. Under this agreement, early-stage startups can receive US$2,500 worth of Vultr credits along with a 20% discount, while those past the early-stage funding threshold are eligible for US$45,000 in credits and a 20% discount. This initiative specifically targets startups in AI and deep technology, aiming to reduce their infrastructure costs and improve access to essential computing resources for product development, experimentation, and deployment.
By offering both powerful local infrastructure and significant financial support, the initiative provides a practical pathway for startups to develop and scale AI applications without prohibitive upfront investments. Kevin Cochrane, Chief Marketing Officer at Vultr, noted that bringing computing infrastructure closer to innovation centers supports India's shift from consuming AI technologies to actively building and developing AI applications for global markets.
