China Builds 10-Day Weather Forecast System on Homegrown AI Chips
China has launched a new weather forecasting system, Sugon 8000, which uses 100,000 domestically produced AI chips. The system provides 10-day global forecasts at a 5-kilometer resolution. This resolution is finer than the 13-kilometer maximum offered by the U.S. Global Forecast System (GFS). The China Meteorological Administration and Sugon developed this system, aiming for 1-kilometer nationwide accuracy by 2030.
