Xiaomi's entry into the EREV SUV market with the Skynomad series, featuring deliveries across 75 Chinese cities, reflects a strategic expansion beyond its core consumer electronics business. The company is leveraging its brand recognition to compete in China's crowded new energy vehicle sector. Offering models from 31,300 USD to 44,100 USD, Xiaomi is targeting a broad segment of the market, including those seeking custom features like a rear projector or retractable running boards. The integration of a 700 TOPS Nvidia Thor-U chip for L2-level assisted driving capabilities, including Navigate on Autopilot, positions Xiaomi to compete with established automotive players on technology. The reported 1,351 to 1,705 km total cruising range and 18-minute fast charge time for 20-80% battery capacity are strong selling points in a market where range anxiety remains a factor. The partnership with Shell for specialized engine oil and the extended 3-year or 30,000 km service interval for the range extender also aim to reduce ownership costs and appeal to consumers.
