TRM Labs Taps Former MAS Regulator Claudia Hui for APAC Compliance Role
TRM Labs, a blockchain intelligence company, has appointed former Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) regulator Claudia Hui as its Head of Compliance Advisory for Asia Pacific. This new role, the first dedicated compliance advisory position for TRM in the region, will involve working with financial institutions, digital asset firms, and regulators to address money laundering and financial crime risks. Hui brings extensive experience, having previously served as an Assistant Director in MAS’ Payments Department, where she was instrumental in implementing the Payment Services Act, and later held compliance leadership roles at Revolut and Qashier. Her appointment comes at a crucial time as more banks and payment companies in the region are venturing into stablecoins, tokenization, and digital asset custody, necessitating robust compliance frameworks.
The appointment of Claudia Hui to TRM Labs’ APAC compliance team signifies a growing maturity and institutionalization within Asia’s digital asset landscape. Her background as a former MAS regulator and her subsequent experience in compliance leadership roles at fintech firms like Revolut and Qashier provide a unique blend of regulatory insight and operational understanding. This expertise is critical as financial institutions and digital asset firms in the region navigate complex and often ambiguous regulatory environments, particularly concerning anti-money laundering (AML) and financial crime risks associated with new technologies like stablecoins and tokenization.
This move also highlights a broader trend of talent migration from regulatory bodies to the private sector in Asia’s burgeoning tech and fintech industries. Such transitions are beneficial for the ecosystem, as they bring deep regulatory knowledge directly into companies, helping them build more compliant and sustainable business models. For TRM Labs, having a seasoned expert like Hui will enhance its ability to provide actionable intelligence and advisory services, fostering greater trust and facilitating the responsible adoption of digital assets across the diverse regulatory landscapes of the Asia Pacific region.
