SK Bioscience Expands AI Adoption in Vaccine Manufacturing, Targets Company-Wide Digital Transformation
South Korean vaccine manufacturer SK Bioscience is accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence across its operations, expanding from manufacturing process optimization to research and development, regulatory affairs, and quality management. The company outlined its AI-driven initiatives and digital transformation strategy at the AI Bio Drug Discovery Summit 2026 in Incheon.
SK Bioscience has implemented an AI-powered "Yield Guide Agent" at its L HOUSE vaccine manufacturing facility in Andong, South Korea. This system analyzes manufacturing data to pinpoint factors influencing production yields. Its purpose is to recommend operating conditions that could enhance process efficiency, addressing the complex and variable nature of vaccine production, particularly for influenza vaccines that require adaptation to changing strains.
The company emphasizes that the AI tool is designed to support, rather than replace, human decision-making. While the system provides data analysis and recommendations, key manufacturing decisions remain subject to review and approval by responsible personnel. This approach reflects the stringent quality and regulatory requirements inherent in vaccine manufacturing, where changes to production processes demand careful evaluation and control. SK Bioscience aims to improve operational efficiency and process stability through this AI-assisted analysis.
Beyond manufacturing, SK Bioscience is extending AI applications into research and development, clinical and regulatory operations, and quality management. In these areas, AI is being explored to support scientific information gathering, improve the efficiency of information processing, and assist with documentation-related tasks, including preparation for regulatory inspections. The goal is to enhance individual task efficiency and improve how employees access information, share knowledge, and collaborate across departments.
