Reusable rocket milestone opens a door for Hong Kong’s space ambitions
LandSpace's Zhuque-3 Y2 rocket successfully completed China's first land-based recovery of an orbital-class rocket booster on August 19. The rocket lifted off from the Dongfeng Commercial Space Innovation Test Area and its first stage touched down softly in Gansu province. This achievement places LandSpace in a category previously only occupied by SpaceX, which pioneered vertical landing for reusable rockets. The Zhuque-3 is designed to reduce launch costs, aiming to close the gap with SpaceX's US$2,700 per kg price point, as China's commercial launch prices currently range from US$8,000 to US$14,000 per kg.
LandSpace's successful land-based recovery of the Zhuque-3 Y2 rocket's first stage on August 19 marks a significant advance for China's commercial space sector.
