PortXL presents its 2026 cohort of 11 maritime startups and scale-ups
PortXL, a Rotterdam-based maritime startup accelerator, announced its 2026 cohort of 11 startups and scale-ups, selected from over 250 global applicants. The program, running from October 6 to December 3, 2026, aims to connect these companies with market access, capital, and networking opportunities.
The 2026 PortXL cohort indicates a continued industry focus on sustainability and operational efficiency within the maritime sector. Several selected startups, such as Bluefins and Shipsonic, are developing technologies designed to reduce fuel consumption and prevent biofouling. These innovations directly address the need for lower emissions and reduced operational costs for shipping, aligning with broader pressures for environmental improvement.
Beyond environmental considerations, the cohort also highlights efforts to enhance operational safety and decision-making. Elnav, for instance, focuses on AI technology to support human judgment in critical onboard situations, while Marine Weather Intelligence provides forecasting to optimize routes and mitigate risks. These examples suggest a drive towards integrating advanced digital tools to improve both safety and efficiency in maritime operations.
PortXL's program structure emphasizes direct engagement between startups and established industry players, including the Port of Rotterdam Authority and new innovation partners like Damen. This approach aims to facilitate the transition of new technologies from development to practical application, fostering a more sustainable, resilient, and efficient port and maritime industry.
