Morphotonics raises €40M to expand its display tech into data centers
Dutch deep tech company Morphotonics raised €40 million in an extended funding round. The investment, backed by 3M Ventures and Innovation Industries, will scale its nanoimprint lithography (NIL) technology. Morphotonics manufactures displays for AR glasses and is expanding into optical components for data centers. The company plans to increase its headcount from 60 to 70-75 employees.
Morphotonics secured €40 million, reflecting strong demand for advanced display manufacturing. The company’s nanoimprint lithography (NIL) creates waveguides for smart glasses like Meta Ray-Ban Display. This technology is critical as smart glass sales in China doubled in the first eight months of this year. Manufacturers need machines that can produce these displays at scale.
Asia’s display manufacturers will likely be key beneficiaries and customers. Morphotonics already concentrates its manufacturing in Asia, with teams in China, Taiwan, and South Korea. Its next machine, shipping early next year, will produce over 6 million waveguides annually. This capacity directly supports Asian supply chains and the growing regional demand for smart glasses.
The push into co-packaged optics for data centers is the thing to watch. Morphotonics has not yet shipped machines in this area. Its revenue is 90% from hardware sales, with 10 to 15 systems deployed globally. The company expects to reach 50 deployments in the next two to three years, which will test its diversification strategy beyond displays.
