Meshy Debuts New In-House AI Model with Meshy Edit, Letting Users Change Selected Parts of a 3D Model with One Prompt
Meshy, an AI 3D multimodal model company, launched Meshy Edit on October 16, 2026, enabling users to modify specific parts of a 3D model with a text prompt. The new feature, which runs on an in-house AI model, allows creators to select an area and describe changes, generating a new model in about a minute while preserving unselected parts.
Meshy Edit addresses a practical challenge in 3D model creation by allowing targeted modifications. Previously, altering a detail often required regenerating the entire model, potentially undoing desired elements, or demanding skilled manual editing in software like Blender. This new tool streamlines the process, potentially saving creators significant time and effort by enabling precise, prompt-based adjustments.
The service is positioned to benefit 3D printing users and game developers. For 3D printing, it simplifies adding or removing parts and swapping accessories on figurines or miniatures. Game developers and character artists can efficiently create multiple versions of a character by altering props or accessories without redesigning the core model, accelerating content iteration.
Meshy's market position appears to be strengthening, as indicated by its inclusion in a16z's Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps report. Ranking 31st by U.S. consumer card spending, Meshy was the sole AI 3D company on the list. This suggests a measurable consumer willingness to pay for its services, with the new edit feature likely to enhance its appeal by reducing the 'time cost' for detailed work.
