Airwallex Expands McLaren F1 Partnership With AI Finance Role
Airwallex has expanded its partnership with McLaren Racing, becoming the Official AI Finance Partner of the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team from January 2027. This builds on an existing relationship from February 2024, where Airwallex supported McLaren's global financial operations with cross-border payment and treasury management technology.
The extended partnership between Airwallex and McLaren Racing, effective from 2027, aligns with Airwallex's increased focus on AI-driven financial services. This strategic direction follows a US$320 million Series H funding round in June 2026, which valued the company at US$11 billion. The funding is specifically allocated for developing AI-based financial software, indicating a clear investment into new product capabilities.
Airwallex's planned AI products include T:0, a platform designed to automate business finance functions such as bookkeeping, forecasting, tax, and compliance. Additionally, the company is developing Airi, a digital wallet intended to support payments delegated to AI agents, spending controls, and multi-currency balances. These initiatives aim to enhance operational efficiency and control for businesses.
McLaren Racing's Chief Financial Officer, Laura Bowden, stated that Airwallex is their first Official AI Finance Partner, reflecting a commitment to investing in faster, more efficient technology. This suggests that the partnership will serve as a practical application for Airwallex's developing AI capabilities within a global organization, building on their established work supporting McLaren's international financial operations since 2024.
