Google Cloud adds Anthropic-managed Claude deployment

Google Cloud has launched an Anthropic-managed deployment option for Claude models on its platform, offering customers a second method to run Anthropic's AI. This new option coexists with the existing Google-managed model, with both providing access to the same Claude models and utilizing Google Cloud's billing framework.

Google Cloud now provides two distinct ways for customers to deploy Anthropic's Claude models, including Fable 5.1, Sonnet 5.5, Haiku 5.5, and Opus 5.5. Both the Google-managed and the new Anthropic-managed options offer immediate access to these core models upon release and consolidate spending within existing Google Cloud commitments. The fundamental distinction between these options lies in the operating model, specifically who acts as the data processor, and the timing of access to additional Anthropic platform features.

The Google-managed option positions Google Cloud as the data processor under existing customer agreements, targeting organizations with stringent governance, compliance, and data sovereignty requirements. This route includes security features like VPC Service Controls, Customer-Managed Encryption Keys, and data residency choices in the US, EU, and APAC. It also offers native integrations with Google Cloud services such as BigQuery and Model Armour. Customers using this option receive the latest Claude models immediately, but additional Anthropic platform features will arrive later, once integrated into Google's infrastructure.

Conversely, the Anthropic-managed option allows Anthropic to operate the underlying stack on Google Cloud infrastructure and serve as the data processor under its own commercial terms. This approach grants customers direct access to newly launched Claude platform features as they become available, including beta tools like Claude Managed Agents, skills, and code execution. Organizations can still leverage Google Cloud IAM for authentication and retain Cloud Audit Logging, providing a path for rapid feature adoption while maintaining existing cloud identity management.

This dual deployment strategy addresses a growing demand from companies seeking to standardize AI workloads on a single cloud provider while maintaining flexibility in operating and compliance models for specific applications. The choice ultimately depends on whether an organization prioritizes immediate access to Anthropic's latest platform innovations or a more integrated, compliance-focused framework managed directly by Google Cloud.
