Demand for Digital Tools, Integration, Flexible Payments on the Rise Among APAC SMEs
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Asia-Pacific are rapidly adopting digital tools and AI. A 2026 Mastercard report, based on a survey of over 6,000 respondents, found APAC SMEs use an average of five business tools per firm. 74% view integrated tools as essential for daily decisions. A 2025 Deloitte survey noted 78% of APAC SMEs use at least one AI-enabled tool. These tools are projected to drive US$211-512 billion in economic benefits by 2034.
APAC SMEs are embracing digital tools, but they demand simplicity. 74% want integrated solutions, and 51% prefer bundled technology. This push for consolidation reflects a struggle with complexity, not a rejection of digital. India shows this trend clearly, with 63% of its SMEs interested in real-time payments, higher than the regional 51%.
The Deloitte survey reveals a significant AI adoption surge. 78% of APAC SMEs already use AI tools, with 82% planning more adoption. This will reshape regional competition. 73% of SMEs believe AI balances the playing field against larger firms. This could accelerate growth for smaller players in markets like Vietnam and Thailand, where AI adoption is high.
The critical challenge is security. 70% of APAC SMEs prioritize cyber protection, yet only 39% use cybersecurity tools. This gap is dangerous. AI-driven scams are rising, with one in five consumers encountering deepfakes or voice clones. The test for financial providers is delivering AI-powered fraud protection that SMEs will actually use.
