DeepSeek is reportedly expanding its team as it outlines new growth plans to investors, according to an October 27 report by Chinese technology outlet Ifeng Tech. This follows a June 25 recruitment announcement where the AI company stated plans to at least double the size of every department, alongside a September advertisement for approximately 150 openings by the head of its Harness team, describing hiring demand as unprecedented.
The recruitment drive includes 33 advertised positions spanning research, product development, corporate functions, and critically, computing infrastructure. Among these, the specific inclusion of data-center construction roles in Ulanqab points towards a focused effort to develop or expand physical infrastructure.
This emphasis on data-center construction suggests DeepSeek may be strategically investing in proprietary physical capacity for processing and storing the extensive data required for AI model training and deployment. Such a move could reduce reliance on external cloud services, potentially offering greater control over costs, security, and scalability for its AI development.
