Dan Ives Calls Meta Muse A 'Game Changer,' Sees Apple As AI 'Toll Collector' In AI Arms Race
Meta Platforms and Apple could drive the next phase of the AI boom. Yorkville Ives partner Dan Ives said this on Tuesday. He called Meta's Muse AI a "game changer." Ives also sees Apple as a major beneficiary as AI moves into the consumer market. META stock rose 0.5% in midday trade; AAPL stock moved 0.7% higher.
Dan Ives argues that Meta and Apple are underestimated in the AI race. He points to Meta's 3.5 billion users across its platforms. This existing audience is a key advantage for AI product adoption. Meta has spent tens of billions on AI infrastructure, which Ives says investors initially discounted.
This focus on consumer AI by US tech giants has implications for Asia. Asian companies with large existing user bases, like Tencent or Grab, could follow a similar path. They might integrate AI into familiar platforms rather than building from scratch. The test for these companies is whether they can convert existing user trust into AI adoption.
The industry is only about 15% of the way through the required spending, according to Ives. This suggests significant investment will continue through 2028 or 2029 for the chip market. The thing to watch is how Asian chip manufacturers respond to this sustained demand. Continued investment could drive further capacity expansion in the region.
