China Mobile Hong Kong Establishes Hong Kong's First U6G Network

China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) announced it has established Hong Kong's first U6GHz network, completing testing and validation at its Mong Kok flagship store. This follows Hong Kong's 2024 auction of 6/7GHz spectrum for public mobile services, where CMHK secured 100MHz of continuous spectrum.

CMHK's deployment of the Upper 6GHz (U6GHz) band aims to expand network capacity and support future 6G evolution. The U6GHz spectrum is described as crucial for continuous wide bandwidth, enabling download speeds of up to 3Gbps when combined with existing frequency bands. This enhancement is intended to improve internet experience in congested areas and facilitate high-definition video and large-capacity data transmission.

The initiative is positioned to support the increasing data demands from AI applications and devices like smart glasses and AI robots. CMHK plans to integrate U6GHz with intelligent computing services to enhance connectivity between terminals and computing platforms, exploring applications in AI image analysis, immersive interactions, and industrial uses.

CMHK states its efforts align with national and Hong Kong blueprints, including the "15th Five-Year Plan," focusing on "AI+" and computing infrastructure. The company plans to collaborate with industry partners to advance U6GHz product research and development, expand hotspot coverage, and contribute to Hong Kong's goal of becoming an international innovation and technology center.
