Synology Outlines AI Data Infrastructure Priorities For Malaysian Businesses At Annual Press Event
Synology’s 2026 Annual Press Event in Kuala Lumpur presented survey findings on AI adoption barriers among Malaysian businesses, identifying data security, quality, and governance as primary concerns. The company outlined its strategy to address these issues through scalable data infrastructure, stronger cyber resilience, and enhanced control over business data.
A Synology survey indicates that over 90% of Malaysian businesses view AI-ready infrastructure as important for efficiency, yet implementation faces significant obstacles. Data security and privacy were cited by 70% of respondents as their top concern, followed by data quality (42%) and scattered data (40%). This suggests that while there is strong recognition of AI's potential, practical readiness is hampered by fundamental data management challenges.
The preference for hybrid or on-premises infrastructure, chosen by 68.6% of Malaysian respondents compared to 12.5% favoring public cloud, points to a desire for direct control over business-critical data. This aligns with concerns about data visibility, where nearly 40% reported no insight into how third-party AI tools handle their information. This highlights a tension between leveraging external AI capabilities and maintaining data sovereignty.
Synology is responding to these reported priorities with new product launches for 2026, including NVMe SSD storage solutions (PAS7700), updated FS and RS series for general storage, and DSM 7.4 with data reduction features. For cyber resilience, ActiveProtect appliances offer dedicated backup infrastructure and extended workload support. Workplace AI tools like Synology Office Suite and the DVA7400 surveillance appliance aim to provide on-premises AI assistance and incident detection, reflecting a strategy to offer solutions that address data control and security concerns directly.
