Celine Dion, Harry Styles concerts get an AI sound upgrade

French audio company L-Acoustics has launched Source Intelligence, an AI-powered software platform that enhances live event sound by isolating a singer's voice from background noise. The technology reportedly reduces non-vocal sound by up to 40 decibels and has been used for artists like Celine Dion and Harry Styles. The company anticipates revenue to reach €400 million in 2027.

L-Acoustics' Source Intelligence platform employs machine learning to filter out ambient noise, instruments, and crowd sounds in real time, aiming to deliver clearer vocals at live concerts. This approach builds on existing vocal separation technologies, but L-Acoustics is applying it within its proprietary hardware and software ecosystem, which distinguishes its strategy from competitors offering more universally compatible solutions.

The company's expansion into AI software marks a shift for L-Acoustics, which historically focused on hardware innovations like the line array speaker system. By offering a full-system approach that integrates its AI software with its sound systems, the company aims to provide a comprehensive audio solution, moving beyond just hardware to encompass content and audio processing.

The adoption of Source Intelligence by prominent concert engineers for major artists suggests a practical benefit in managing complex live sound environments. While the technology is noted for its ability to keep vocals prominent, its exclusive integration with L-Acoustics hardware means that its impact will primarily be felt by those who are already customers of, or adopt, the company's broader system.
