Zhipu open-sources ZCode after data dispute and plans no-retention controls for MaaS
Zhipu has open-sourced its AI coding workbench ZCode on GitHub. This follows a data-handling dispute and a completed remediation process. The company also announced that its MaaS platform will offer non-retention controls for user data content. This new feature will apply to standard model calls. Batch API and File API data will still be retained for defined periods.
Zhipu's open-sourcing of ZCode reflects more than transparency. It directly addresses a data dispute. The move aims to rebuild trust with developers after the company's prior data-handling issues. This also positions Zhipu to compete with other open-source AI coding tools in China.
The new non-retention policy for MaaS platform data is a critical development for Chinese enterprise AI users. Data privacy concerns have slowed enterprise adoption of AI models in Asia. Zhipu's move could alleviate some of these fears. This could give Zhipu an edge over competitors still grappling with similar data policies.
The test for Zhipu is whether this policy gains widespread enterprise adoption. It must also prove effective in practice. Watch for how other Chinese AI providers respond. They may follow suit with similar data retention controls. This could establish a new standard for data privacy in China's AI sector.
