XtalPi AI Enables Seven-Month PCC Nomination for Viva-Thera's MPER-Targeting HIV-1 Program
XtalPi, a Chinese AI drug discovery company, incubated and backs Viva-Thera, a new biotech startup. Viva-Thera publicly debuted with four modalities for HIV prevention and cure. The companies nominated a preclinical candidate (PCC) for HIV-1 in seven months. This was achieved by combining Viva-Thera's structural research with XtalPi's AI drug design and automation platform.
XtalPi's seven-month PCC nomination for Viva-Thera’s HIV-1 program shows AI’s speed in drug discovery. The AI platform navigated approximately 10 million compounds. This resulted in five validated hits. This pace is difficult to achieve through conventional R&D. It reflects a growing trend of AI-accelerated drug development in Asia.
This collaboration positions XtalPi as more than a service provider. It is an incubator and strategic shareholder. This model could become more common for Asian AI platforms. They will invest in and accelerate startups. This creates a pipeline of AI-driven therapeutics. It also expands XtalPi’s influence in the biotech sector.
The key thing to watch is Viva-Thera's progress in clinical trials. The company's vaccine program, for example, elicited antibody levels approximately five times those of a comparator in rhesus macaques. Successful human trials would validate XtalPi's AI platform for complex diseases like HIV. This would open new funding avenues for similar ventures in Asia.
