Xiaomi Xring O3 vs Xring O1: The upgrades are pretty wild
Xiaomi has unveiled its latest mobile chipset, the Xring O3, which demonstrates significant performance and efficiency upgrades over its predecessor, the Xring O1. Benchmarks from Xiaobai’s Tech, conducted on the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max, show the Xring O3 achieving a 27% higher single-core CPU score and a 57% higher multi-core score in Geekbench 6 compared to the O1. The new chip also boasts an 89% jump in GPU performance in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme, driven by a 16-core Mali-G2 Ultra NX GPU and next-generation DDR6 memory. Furthermore, the Xring O3’s Neural Processing Unit (NPU) delivers 200 trillion operations per second (TOPS), a substantial increase from the O1’s 44 TOPS.
Xiaomi’s Xring O3 chipset marks a substantial leap in mobile processing power, particularly for AI applications. The 200 TOPS NPU capability allows for advanced on-device AI functions, a critical development for the Asian market where offline AI processing can enhance user experience and data privacy. This level of AI performance positions Xiaomi to compete more aggressively with other major chip designers in the region, offering robust capabilities for complex AI assistants and advanced photo editing directly on devices like the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max. The all-big-core CPU design and the new 16-core Mali-G2 Ultra NX GPU, which includes dedicated neural network units for graphics upscaling, reflect a multi-generational improvement. While the Xring O3 still uses TSMC’s 3nm node (N3P), the performance gains are significant, outperforming even the Apple A19 Pro and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in multi-core CPU benchmarks. The adoption of DDR6 memory also provides a 48% increase in peak memory bandwidth, which is crucial for high-performance computing and AI workloads. The key thing to watch is how Xiaomi integrates these hardware advancements into its broader device ecosystem and software offerings across Asia. The raw benchmark numbers are impressive, but the real impact will be measured by tangible user benefits and developer adoption of the enhanced AI and graphics capabilities in new applications.
