What is Discovery Loop, Chinese teen AI prodigy Nathan Chen’s rumoured next destination?

The reported move of Nathan Chen to Discovery Loop highlights the intense competition for AI talent, even among researchers at a very early stage of their careers. Discovery Loop, a new startup focused on automating scientific research with AI, has attracted attention due to its founding team of former Google senior researchers.

Chen's reported recruitment suggests that startups are willing to bring in young talent, potentially valuing raw aptitude and specific technical skills over extensive industry experience. While Discovery Loop has already recruited other experienced researchers from US tech giants, Chen's age makes his rumored addition notable for its potential to accelerate his development within a focused AI research environment.

This situation illustrates how new ventures in the AI sector are building teams by drawing from various sources, including established tech companies and promising individuals, regardless of traditional career paths. The ability of a two-month-old startup to attract a researcher who had been with Moonshot AI, an emerging Chinese AI company, suggests a fluid talent market driven by research focus and the appeal of founding teams.
