Thunes Extends J.P. Morgan Payments Reach Across 100+ Corridors
J.P. Morgan Payments has partnered with Thunes to expand its Xpedite Remit service. This collaboration will extend cross-border payment capabilities across more than 100 corridors. The partnership combines J.P. Morgan's real-time payment rails with Thunes' Direct Global Network, which reaches 12 billion bank accounts and mobile wallets. Clients will send payouts to bank accounts and mobile wallets with foreign exchange conversion. JPMorgan Chase's Consumer and Community Bank will also use these rails for its 94 million consumer and small business customers.
J.P. Morgan's move to expand Xpedite Remit through Thunes directly responds to client demand for faster cross-border payments. The focus extends beyond mere reach to integrating traditional banking with local payment methods. The partnership leverages Thunes' network, which connects to 12 billion bank accounts and mobile wallets globally. This points to a clear shift towards hybrid payment infrastructures.
The initial rollout targets key Asian markets including India, Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, and the Philippines. This focus on high-remittance corridors in Asia means faster payouts and real-time inbound payments for millions. For Asian fintechs, this partnership represents both opportunity and increased competition, as a major global bank now offers more robust local payment options.
The thing to watch is how quickly J.P. Morgan integrates these new rails into its broader service offerings beyond the initial supplier, bill, and remittance payments. The true test for Thunes will be maintaining its bank-grade compliance and security at this new scale. Any disruption could undermine confidence in these hybrid solutions.
