Thailand’s Salary Hero Raises US$7.6 Million to Expand into Malaysia
Thailand-based Salary Hero has secured US$7.6 million in Series A funding and expanded its credit facility to US$10 million as it enters the Malaysian market. The earned wage access (EWA) provider began operations in Malaysia in Q2 2026 and aims for 50 corporate partners by the end of 2027, according to the company.
Salary Hero's expansion into Malaysia, supported by new funding, indicates a continued regional focus on earned wage access (EWA) solutions. Co-founder Prabhav Rakhra describes the financial system in Southeast Asia as "broken" for those who can least afford it, citing high monthly interest rates. This suggests that EWA is being positioned as a fairer alternative to short-term borrowing for workers facing mid-month cash flow gaps.
The company's reported impact in Thailand provides a basis for its claims. Salary Hero states it serves over 100 companies and 300,000 employees in Thailand, across sectors like manufacturing and hospitality. It estimates its services have helped workers avoid US$150 million in loans from predatory lenders, which, if accurate, points to a notable financial benefit for individual workers.
Beyond just early wage access, Salary Hero integrates budgeting tools, financial education, and AI-driven analytics. The company reported a 15 to 25 percent reduction in frontline employee turnover among employers using its platform in Thailand. This suggests that the platform's combination of financial tools and workforce data analysis may offer employers a way to improve employee retention, positioning EWA as more than just a financial service.
