Thailand’s CLICX Taps Thought Machine for Core Banking

Thailand’s CLICX virtual bank has selected Thought Machine’s Vault Core platform for its core banking operations. Formed by Krungthai Bank, Advanced Info Service (AIS), and PTT Oil and Retail Business (OR), CLICX aims to serve freelancers, daily wage earners, and small business owners. The bank uses the cloud-native platform to analyze customer-consented data for credit risk assessment.

CLICX is positioning itself to address credit access challenges for segments like freelancers and small business owners, who often struggle with traditional financial services. Its strategy involves Thought Machine’s cloud-native Vault Core platform, designed for efficient cloud operation. This system enables CLICX to analyze customer-consented data from mobile, retail, and payment networks, moving beyond conventional credit scoring methods that typically rely on formal employment history.

This approach allows CLICX to assess credit risk for its target demographic, supporting the provision of nano-loans and digital personal loans. These offerings feature risk-based pricing and tailored repayment terms, which can be crucial for borrowers with irregular incomes. The platform also facilitates the integration of CLICX's banking services directly into the mobile, retail, and payment channels of its shareholders, potentially improving accessibility for its intended users.

Wannasit Chaiphinan, CTO of CLICX, stated that Vault Core provides the flexibility to develop products around customer needs. Its cloud-native architecture reportedly separates product logic from core infrastructure, allowing in-house configuration and refinement with less dependence on vendor-led changes. While the report highlights CLICX's operational readiness as the first among newly approved virtual banks, it does not detail initial operational scale, customer uptake, or specific performance metrics of its alternative credit assessment models.
