TDK showcases sensor and passive component solutions for humanoid robotics at Hong Hai (Foxconn) Tech Day
TDK Corporation showcased its sensor and passive component solutions for humanoid robotics at Hong Hai (Foxconn) Technology Day in Taipei from October 30 to 31, 2026. The presented portfolio supports various aspects of robot development, including perception, computing, driving, and battery management, as humanoid robots advance towards industrial applications.
As humanoid robots transition from laboratory settings to industrial applications such as manufacturing, logistics, and medical care, the demands on their electronic components are increasing. Future robots will require capabilities like precise grasping, dynamic balance, and human-machine collaboration, necessitating high-precision motion sensing, efficient power management, and stable communication, alongside reliability in varying conditions.
TDK addresses these needs with a portfolio of motion and position sensors. Their MEMS IMU, described as the "inner ear" of humanoid robots, integrates low-noise, high-performance gyroscopes and accelerometers with BalancedGyro® vibration suppression technology. This design aims to provide stable, accurate real-time monitoring of posture, acceleration, and angular velocity, which is foundational for dynamic balance and precise movements in complex robotic systems.
For precise joint and actuator control, TDK offers TMR angle sensors that use the tunnel magnetoresistance effect for non-contact angular position measurement. These sensors are noted for their compact size, low power consumption, and high angular accuracy, making them suitable for space-constrained robot joint modules. Additionally, the PositionSenseâ„¢ magnetic position sensing solution combines a 6-axis IMU with a 3-axis TMR-based magnetometer to detect rotational, linear, and switch positions, supporting the granular control needed for dexterous hands and other actuators.
