Second land tender at Hong Kong’s border tech hub draws 9 bids
Hong Kong’s flagship tech hub at the border with mainland China, the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HSITP), has attracted nine bids for its second land tender. The tender, covering three parcels primarily for laboratory and office use, follows an inaugural tender in August that received six bids, as reported by The Loop Hong Kong Park Company.
The increase from six bids in the inaugural tender to nine for this second batch of land suggests a consistent, rather than dramatically accelerating, interest in the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park. The current tender focuses on parcels for laboratory and office use, with one also eligible for talent accommodation, a detail that could be a specific draw for firms considering relocating or expanding their workforce.
The mix of 'frontier technology firms' and 'major conglomerates' among the tenderers indicates that the park appeals to a diverse set of organizations. This suggests the park is not solely targeting startups or established enterprises but is seen as a viable location for both early-stage research and development, and larger-scale corporate operations.
The Loop Hong Kong Park Company, as the operator, is developing the park in phases. The emphasis on laboratory and office space in these initial tenders points to a foundational strategy focused on building core R&D and operational capacity, rather than immediately diversifying into broader commercial or residential offerings.
