Seatrium and Karpowership to Jointly Develop Floating Power Solutions and Digital Infrastructure, Supporting Singapore and Southeast Asia's Energy Resilience

Seatrium Limited and Karpowership have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to pursue a joint venture for developing floating power and digital infrastructure solutions. Announced at Singapore International Energy Week 2026, the collaboration targets Singapore's energy resilience and broader Southeast Asia, potentially including Powerships, floating data centers, and floating nuclear solutions.

The partnership between Seatrium, an offshore engineering firm, and Karpowership, a global leader in floating power, aims to create an integrated platform covering infrastructure development, financing, engineering, construction, and operations. This collaboration brings together Seatrium's offshore engineering and systems integration capabilities with Karpowership's experience in developing, owning, and operating floating power and digital infrastructure, including "behind-the-meter power solutions for super intelligence."

The proposed solutions are designed for rapid deployment and may include Powerships, which are floating power plants pioneered by Karpowership, as well as floating data centers, turbine-based or hybrid vessels, and floating nuclear solutions. Karpowership states its expertise extends to delivering gigawatt-scale, behind-the-meter power solutions and turnkey data center solutions, implying these floating platforms can house significant computing infrastructure directly at the point of use.

For Singapore, the initiative is presented by Seatrium CEO Chris Ong as a step to bolster the nation's long-term competitiveness and energy resilience, with potential expansion across Southeast Asia. The partners state their ambition to utilize "best-available technologies, including hydrogen-ready power generation," indicating a focus on future energy transitions. This MoU establishes a framework for future development, rather than detailing specific project timelines or investment figures.
