PeraSure launches in PH, targets microentrepreneurs
PeraSure, a digital lending company operated by SEC-registered Sulit Lending Corp., has launched in the Philippines, targeting an estimated 9.9 million gig workers and micro-entrepreneurs. The company offers loans up to P50,000, allowing applications with a government ID and basic income information, without requiring traditional payslips.
PeraSure's entry into the Philippine lending market reflects an ongoing effort to address the credit needs of the informal economy. By designing a loan application process that bypasses traditional income documentation, the company aims to serve a significant segment of the workforce, including freelancers and platform workers, who often struggle to access formal credit due to irregular income streams.
The timing of PeraSure's launch coincides with new regulatory changes in the Philippines, specifically the SEC's Memorandum Circular 14, Series of 2025, which caps combined loan charges at 12 percent per month starting April 1, 2026. This tighter regulatory environment suggests that digital lenders must now operate within stricter limits on interest and fees, potentially influencing their business models and profitability.
The ability for borrowers to reuse approved credit lines and potentially increase limits based on repayment history introduces an element of financial inclusion and credit building. This approach could help informal workers establish a credit profile, which is typically difficult to achieve through traditional banking channels. The transparency in showing applicants all charges before loan confirmation aligns with regulatory goals of consumer protection.
