MDS Tech to Supply 4 Billion Won in Nvidia AI Chips for Humanoid Robot
MDS Tech will supply approximately 4 billion won ($2.8 million) worth of Nvidia Jetson AI computing products to a South Korean company developing a humanoid robot for home use. This represents MDS Tech's largest single AI order since establishing its artificial intelligence business unit, according to the company.
MDS Tech's contract for Nvidia Jetson AI products illustrates a practical application of advanced AI computing in the emerging field of home robotics. The "Jetson full package," combining Nvidia modules with systems and sensors from partners, indicates that integrating AI into physical hardware often requires a comprehensive solution beyond just the core chip.
The progression from Nvidia Jetson Orin to the next-generation Jetson Thor in the robot's development environment suggests that the performance demands for humanoid robotics are evolving. This upgrade path reflects how developers often seek more powerful and efficient AI processing capabilities as projects mature.
MDS Tech's broader strategy, including partnerships with Seoul National University for specialist training and exclusive distribution agreements with robotics and vision partners, shows a company actively building out its capabilities in physical AI. This approach of combining hardware supply with educational and distribution networks can support a more integrated market presence in a specialized tech domain.
The company's expansion into ultra-high-speed data connectivity for robotics and autonomous driving, through a partnership with Unicon, further highlights the need for robust data infrastructure alongside AI processing. In physical AI applications, the ability to rapidly collect and transmit data is as critical as the processing power itself for real-time operation and decision-making.
