FIS AML Investigations Agent Now Available to All US Banks
FIS has made its AI-powered AML Investigations Agent commercially available to all US-based banks, including non-clients. Developed with support from Anthropic and design partner Amalgamated Bank, the agent aims to significantly reduce manual work in financial crime investigations, with Amalgamated Bank now deploying the tool.
The core value proposition of FIS's AML agent lies in its potential to streamline the initial stages of financial crime investigations. By automating the evaluation of alerts against customer profiles and historical data, the system aims to filter out routine activity from genuinely suspicious transactions. This addresses the industry challenge where analysts reportedly spend a large portion of their time gathering information before they can even begin analysis.
A key reported feature is the agent's ability to link each finding to its source record, creating an audit trail. This is important for regulatory compliance and internal reviews, as it provides transparency into the AI's recommendations and the supporting evidence. The system also retains institutional control over risk thresholds and procedures, integrating with existing monitoring systems rather than replacing them, which could ease adoption for banks.
While FIS projects substantial reductions in investigation times, over 90% for Level 1 alerts and 98% for Level 2 cases, along with an 80% drop in SAR narrative preparation, these figures are projections based on expected capabilities and Amalgamated Bank's workflows, not measured results from live deployment. This distinction between projection and proven performance is crucial for banks assessing the true impact and return on investment.
