ElevenLabs now lets users publish AI-generated music directly on SoundCloud
Audio AI company ElevenLabs announced Thursday that users can now publish music created with its ElevenMusic platform directly to SoundCloud. This integration allows direct distribution of AI-generated tracks, a move that contrasts with other major streaming platforms' varying approaches to such content. ElevenLabs reported over 25 million tracks have been generated using its models.
ElevenLabs, an audio AI company, has enabled direct publishing of music generated via its ElevenMusic platform onto SoundCloud. This integration allows artists using ElevenMusic to bypass intermediary steps, directly sharing their AI-created tracks. As part of this, SoundCloud Artist Pro users are offered three months of ElevenMusic Pro, which facilitates the generation of up to 1,000 songs, 500 stem file splits, and five custom styles or vocals monthly, suggesting a push for active experimentation among professional users.
SoundCloud's CEO, Eliah Seton, framed the partnership as an opportunity for artists to "experiment, push boundaries, and turn creative ideas into something bigger" by being the first platform to integrate ElevenMusic creations directly. This strategy positions SoundCloud as an early adopter in facilitating the direct distribution of AI-generated music. It differs from other streaming platforms like Deezer, which is introducing a toggle to filter out AI music, and Bandcamp, which has implemented a blanket ban on such tracks.
Spotify and YouTube have adopted a more cautious stance, focusing on labeling AI-generated content. While Spotify has partnerships with labels for AI-assisted remixing, it has not announced model partners like ElevenLabs for direct content generation, as it has for audiobooks. This indicates a divergent industry approach, where some platforms are enabling creation and direct distribution, while others prioritize filtering, banning, or more controlled AI applications within existing content. These varying responses reflect the ongoing evaluation of AI's role in music creation and distribution.
