DBS Names Anthony Lim as Chairman From January 2027
Anthony Lim will assume the role of DBS Chairman on January 1, 2027, succeeding Peter Seah, who is retiring after 16 years. Lim, a current DBS board member since April 2020, previously oversaw the bank's CEO transition in March 2025. Under Seah’s leadership, DBS's net profit increased more than fourfold, and its market capitalisation surpassed S$200 billion.
The appointment of Anthony Lim as DBS Chairman in January 2027 suggests a strategic emphasis on leadership continuity within the bank. Lim's existing tenure on DBS boards since April 2020 and his role as chairman of the Compensation and Management Development Committee, where he directly oversaw the CEO transition in March 2025, indicate a deep familiarity with current operations and strategic direction.
This internal succession follows a period of significant growth under outgoing Chairman Peter Seah, whose 16-year tenure saw DBS's income more than triple and net profit increase over fourfold. The bank's market capitalisation also reached S$200 billion by July 2026, making it Singapore’s largest listed company.
Lim's statement about "Building on the strong foundations laid by my predecessors" and his intent to "sustain DBS’ momentum and create long-term value" reinforces the idea that the transition is designed to maintain the bank's established trajectory. His background includes senior executive roles at GIC and Bankers Trust prior to his retirement from executive positions in 2017, providing a foundation in major financial institutions.
