DeepSeek's Liang Wenfeng debuts in 7th place on Hurun China Rich List
Liang Wenfeng, founder of the Chinese frontier artificial intelligence lab DeepSeek, debuted in seventh place on the Hurun China Rich List 2026 with a fortune of US$41.7 billion. The list, released this week, also saw ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming reclaim the top spot, while other AI-linked entrepreneurs made their first appearances.
The 2026 Hurun China Rich List illustrates the impact of the global AI boom on personal wealth in China, with several new entrants directly associated with artificial intelligence. Beyond DeepSeek's Liang Wenfeng, the list features "AI large model founders" Liu Debing and Tang Jie of Z.AI, and Yan Junjie of MiniMax, whose substantial fortunes reflect the growing value placed on foundational AI research and development.
Notably, the list also includes Unitree founder Wang Xingxing, who ranked 78th with US$10.3 billion. While the report does not detail Unitree's specific business, its founder's inclusion alongside other AI figures, and the description of DeepSeek as a "frontier artificial intelligence lab," suggest that wealth generation in the AI sector extends beyond large language models to encompass broader AI applications, such as those in robotics or other advanced AI systems.
This suggests that the expansion of China's high net worth individuals, which saw a record 1,529 people with wealth above 5 billion yuan in 2026, is being significantly driven by innovation across diverse segments of the artificial intelligence domain. The combined wealth on the list increased 7 percent year-on-year to US$4.8 trillion, indicating a broader economic impact from these technological advancements.
