Chip Job Postings at Large Korean Companies Double in Third Quarter
Job postings by large South Korean semiconductor and display companies more than doubled in the third quarter from a year earlier, rising 102%, according to an analysis by JobKorea. Demand for experienced hires within these firms surged 157%, significantly outpacing the 55% growth rate for entry-level positions.
The notable increase in job postings from major South Korean chip and display firms, particularly for experienced talent, suggests a strategic hiring focus. The 157% jump in experienced-hire listings, compared to 55% for entry-level, indicates companies are prioritizing candidates who can immediately contribute to development, likely driven by the accelerating demand for AI memory.
The data from JobKorea reveals a targeted expansion within the tech sector rather than a general boom. While semiconductor engineers, AI and machine learning engineers, and process engineers saw substantial increases in demand, 55%, 50%, and 39% respectively, postings for other IT roles such as web, cloud, and app developers declined. This differentiation points to specific skill requirements emerging from current industry trends.
This concentrated demand for specialized chip and AI-related talent, alongside a rise in new resumes, reflects a responsive talent market. Companies appear to be adapting their recruitment strategies to secure specific expertise needed for technological shifts, particularly those influenced by advancements in artificial intelligence, rather than simply expanding their overall workforce.
