ByteDance plans to significantly expand its AI data center capacity in Inner Mongolia, China, over the next two years. The TikTok parent company is in preliminary talks with local vendors to add between five and six gigawatts of compute power in Ulanqab, a city already hosting computing facilities for major tech firms like Huawei, Kuaishou, Alibaba, and Apple. This expansion reflects a broader trend among Chinese tech giants to increase investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure. The project, targeting delivery by early 2028, could cost an estimated 800 billion to 960 billion yuan, based on industry benchmarks.
