BYD Sealion 08 shipments underway across China
BYD has begun nationwide deliveries of its Sealion 08 SUV across China, with footage showing fleets departing from its Jinan manufacturing facility. This follows a strong market reception, as the vehicle secured over 12,000 firm orders within 24 hours of its launch. BYD has dismissed recent speculation regarding production constraints related to its second-generation Blade Battery. The Sealion 08 is offered in eight variants, priced from 229,900 yuan (33,800 USD) to 279,900 yuan (41,200 USD), with both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid configurations available. It includes advanced features like the God’s Eye B intelligent driving assistance system and DiSus-A intelligent body-control.
BYD's rapid rollout of the Sealion 08, with over 12,000 orders in 24 hours, underscores its ability to quickly convert market interest into deliveries, a key competitive advantage in China's intense EV sector. The company's swift dismissal of Blade Battery production constraint rumors also points to its confidence in scaling manufacturing, which is critical for maintaining market share against rivals like Tesla and local startups. The integration of advanced intelligent driving assistance systems, such as God’s Eye B and DiSus-A, across all Sealion 08 models, reflects a broader trend among Chinese automakers to standardize high-tech features. This strategy aims to differentiate vehicles beyond just price and range, pushing the technological bar for consumer expectations in the Asian market. The availability of both BEV and PHEV options also caters to diverse consumer preferences and infrastructure readiness across different regions in China.
