Bosch Home Comfort Targets Double-digit Ac Market Share In India
Bosch Home Comfort Group aims for a double-digit share of India's air-conditioner market within two years, according to Managing Director Sanjay Sudhakaran. The company plans to launch Bosch-branded ACs next year, utilizing both Bosch and Hitachi brands to target different consumer segments after its August 2025 acquisition of Johnson Controls and Hitachi's global AC business.
Bosch Home Comfort Group intends to expand its presence in India's air-conditioning market through a two-pronged brand strategy. The Hitachi brand will cater to the mainstream and mass-premium segments, leveraging its identity as a specialist in air conditioning with Japanese engineering. The new Bosch-branded ACs, set for launch next year, will target the performance-premium and super-premium categories, with prices starting around Rs 45,000 to Rs 50,000. This positioning is designed to compete with brands such as O General and Mitsubishi Electric, emphasizing Bosch's German engineering heritage.
The company's strategy is to differentiate the brands through distinct product portfolios, features, and value propositions, aiming to attract different buyer demographics rather than creating internal competition. This approach seeks to cover a broader spectrum of the market. Bosch Home Comfort Group anticipates growing faster than the overall market, citing low air conditioner penetration, increasing incomes, and India's expanding economy as key factors driving demand.
To support this market push, Bosch Home Comfort Group plans to invest 80 million euros, or approximately Rs 900 crore, over the coming years. This investment is allocated for expanding manufacturing capacity, increasing local sourcing of components, and enhancing engineering and testing capabilities. The company currently manufactures Hitachi variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems at its Kadi facility in Gujarat, which has an annual capacity exceeding 10 lakh air-conditioning units, and is considering an additional manufacturing facility in southern India.
