BDO Unibank Powers Smarter, Next-Generation Payments With Finastra
BDO Unibank in the Philippines has upgraded its payment infrastructure by adopting Finastra’s Global PAYplus (GPP) platform. The bank states this enhancement supports increasing transaction volumes, strengthens operational resilience, and improves interoperability within the payments ecosystem, according to Finastra's announcement.
The integration of Finastra's GPP platform by BDO Unibank focuses on consolidating high-value and mass-payment processing. This move is intended to simplify the bank's operational setup and provide a more adaptable foundation for future innovations in payment services. By bringing these functions together, BDO aims to manage growing transaction volumes more efficiently.
A key aspect of this upgrade is the platform's ability to support evolving industry standards, specifically ISO 20022. This standard is increasingly important for domestic and cross-border payment networks. The adoption prepares BDO to connect with new payment systems as they emerge, which can be crucial for maintaining relevance in a dynamic financial landscape.
BDO's Head of Cash Management Services, Carlo B. Nazareno, emphasized that resilient and scalable infrastructure is vital for commerce and economic activity. The bank expects the enhanced architecture to improve operational efficiency and client experience, while also supporting future innovation across its payment offerings. This suggests a focus on long-term adaptability rather than just immediate transaction handling.
Finastra's Chief Product Officer of Payments, Radha Suvarna, highlighted that the industry is moving towards unified, AI-enabled payment hubs. This broader trend, combined with cloud-native and API-enabled architecture, is seen as foundational for achieving payments innovation, operational efficiency, and faster market entry for new services. BDO's adoption aligns with these industry shifts.
