Backbase Appoints Nikhil Gujral to Lead APAC Sales
Backbase has appointed Nikhil Gujral as SVP of Sales for Asia Pacific to lead its commercial growth in the region. Based in Singapore, Gujral will oversee operations across Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, bringing nearly two decades of commercial leadership experience from companies like BPC and Temenos.
The appointment of Nikhil Gujral to lead sales in the APAC region for Backbase indicates a strategic focus on expanding the adoption of its AI-native Banking OS. This platform, launched earlier this year, aims to integrate digital banking channels, front-office functions, and operations, allowing customers, bank employees, and AI agents to collaborate.
Gujral's background, which includes experience with fintech company BPC, where he focused on payments and digital banking, and seven years at Temenos building sales teams across South and Southeast Asia, suggests a direct relevance to Backbase's goal. His experience aligns with the company's stated aim of guiding banks through the integration of AI agents into their digital infrastructure.
Backbase's existing customer base in Asia-Pacific, including Chinabank, East West Bank, and MSB in Vietnam, provides a foundation for this expansion. Gujral's stated goal is to help bank leaders in ANZ and Asia understand the potential of Banking OS for their growth, targeting a market where banks are reportedly evaluating how to integrate AI agents while maintaining control.
