Aridge plans UAE regulatory sandbox and inter-emirate flying car route
Aridge, backed by Xpeng, is establishing a regulatory sandbox for flying cars in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. This follows its October 2025 public crewed flight in Dubai and purchase agreements for 600 units with Gulf partners. The sandbox will allow controlled testing of flight performance and operational procedures in desert conditions. Aridge also plans a demonstration route between Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah to assess broader infrastructure needs. The company has raised nearly USD 200 million in equity financing this year, bringing its cumulative funding to nearly USD 1 billion.
Aridge's UAE regulatory sandbox is more than just another test flight. It addresses the critical operational and regulatory gaps that follow successful demonstrations. The planned inter-emirate route between Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah will test everything from airspace coordination to passenger handling, moving beyond mere aircraft performance. This is a crucial step towards commercial viability for Aridge's Land Aircraft Carrier, which has a reported global backlog above 7,000 orders.
The UAE's embrace of advanced air mobility, alongside its support for autonomous driving companies like Baidu Apollo Go and WeRide, positions it as a key testing ground for future transport services in Asia. This creates a competitive advantage for Aridge. The Land Aircraft Carrier's manufacturing facility in Guangzhou, with an annual capacity of up to 10,000 air modules, suggests a clear intent to scale. This also provides a blueprint for other Asian markets considering eVTOL integration.
The real test for Aridge is securing full regulatory approval for commercial passenger eVTOL flights. The current Abu Dhabi to Ras Al Khaimah connection is a demonstration route. Watch whether the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority can establish a clear, scalable framework for commercial operations by late 2027. This would solidify the UAE's lead in advanced air mobility and validate Aridge's substantial investment.
