AI Nation 2030 push: Ministry of Digital offers 100,000 Coursera licences via Rakyat Digital
Malaysia's Ministry of Digital, through MyDigital Corporation, is distributing 100,000 complimentary Coursera learning licenses to Malaysians via the Rakyat Digital portal. This initiative offers three months of access to over 16,000 digital and AI-related courses, supporting the nation's broader digital and AI development plans.
This initiative aims to address skill gaps in Malaysia's workforce by providing accessible training in digital and AI competencies. The government-funded Global Learning Pass allows individuals with a MyDigital ID to access a wide array of courses, from foundational digital literacy to specialized AI and data science programs, from leading global institutions.
Early engagement figures indicate demand for these skills, with 12,900 learners enrolling in 43,000 courses within the first three weeks. The popularity of courses like "Understanding Digital Transformation," a custom offering, alongside Google's AI Fundamentals, suggests a practical focus on job-relevant skills and foundational knowledge among participants.
The program aligns with Malaysia's Digital 2030 Action Plan and National AI Action Plan 2026-2030, reflecting a national ambition to cultivate an 'AI Nation 2030.' By expanding access to globally recognized certifications, the Ministry of Digital seeks to empower Malaysians to participate more effectively in the evolving digital economy and support the country's broader digital transformation agenda.
