80% of Singapore Businesses Use Fintech, Yet Few Fully Switch

Four out of five businesses in Singapore now use a fintech provider for at least some financial needs, according to a YouGov survey commissioned by Aspire. While 30% have fully switched, half of the businesses surveyed continue to use fintech alongside traditional banks, indicating a hybrid approach to financial operations.

The survey highlights a significant shift in Singapore's business banking landscape, with 80% of businesses having adopted fintech. However, the data also shows that a full transition away from traditional banks is less common, with most businesses opting for a blended model. This suggests that while fintech has overcome initial adoption barriers, it has not yet fully displaced incumbent financial institutions for a large segment of the market.

Practical concerns appear to be key barriers to full adoption. A substantial portion of businesses cited operational disruption during transition and data security concerns as reasons for not fully switching. This indicates that the perceived ease and safety of integrating new financial systems are as critical as the services themselves. Furthermore, a notable percentage of businesses found their existing providers "good enough," suggesting that for many, the impetus to overcome these barriers is not yet strong enough.

Businesses are looking for both advanced features and reliable support. The demand for easier onboarding, better customer support, and AI integration points to a desire for efficiency and responsiveness. The emphasis on human involvement in customer support, even alongside automation, suggests that trust and the ability to resolve complex issues still rely heavily on human interaction. Fintech providers must address these combined expectations to encourage further consolidation of financial operations onto their platforms.
