Vinod Khosla believes ex-DeepMind engineer’s Wajo will win agent market on trust
Vinod Khosla is backing Wajo, a personal AI agent developed by former Google and DeepMind engineer Shivani Poddar, citing trust as a key differentiator against competitors like Meta’s Muse and OpenAI’s Dot. Wajo’s Fo agent operates across messaging platforms and has a web interface, capable of tasks like scheduling, calling businesses, and even hiring humans for specific errands.
The personal-agent space is becoming competitive, with Khosla’s investment in Wajo highlighting trust as a critical factor. He contrasts Wajo's architecture, which prioritizes trust and safety, with that of larger companies like Meta, suggesting that users may be reluctant to provide extensive personal data to platforms perceived as being in the advertising business. This perspective identifies a potential challenge for agents from companies with existing data monetization models.
Wajo’s Fo agent provides functionalities such as cross-platform operation, task categorization, and the ability to make calls on a user’s behalf, similar to other agents. Its unique features include the capacity to engage human assistance for tasks and to use virtual credit cards to pay on behalf of the user without disclosing details. These capabilities indicate an effort to address both practical task completion and user privacy concerns.
The commitment to trust is embedded in Wajo's design, including a patent application for its virtual card system and features for managing user preferences for incoming calls from agents. Poddar emphasized that trust must be built from the outset, citing the difficulty of agents 'unlearning' personal data once acquired. This suggests that foundational architectural and product choices around data handling could significantly influence user confidence and adoption in the personal AI agent market.
